Pull away, creation versus rest

Written by Liam Reese

Not on the natural schedule. Circadian disruption. I’m waking up afternoons. And I realize, it’s not too late to start. You know, instead of doing nothing, Drive far. Think hard. Drink caffeine.

Four stinkbugs and one ladybug survived this winter because of our broken window seal. Our bathroom is alive.

Always in the mindset of ‘oh, gotta reset my schedule get back to normal.’

But you know what? This is the way I’ve gone, and I’d rather just embrace the poor position. No more putting in tons more effort to fix something without any discernible positive outcome.

Just been postponing what I want to get done more, it is completely unhelpful.

Feels like a waste to try and rebalance. Yeah, I’m not where I want to be, but here I am. Might as well get to work, adapt.

If I need to reset this timing, when it’s getting in the way of a certain goal? I’ll reset. But only if there’s specific reason.

For the sake of aligning with the daylight? No, that’s not good enough reason.

Might have to deal with the unhealthy side effects. Sadly.

So, I found myself drinking a cup of coffee at 3:00PM. I headed outside and cleared the snow off my car, not much. Saw my dad come around and he showed me his new pair of green and blue snowshoes, which were pretty cool.

Time to get things done. Right? I don’t know.

MyopathOS is how I’ve felt today.

Headed out, decided to get a bite at Sheetz. I stood there waiting for my sandwich, took out my phone and started texting Marco back. As I finished typing and sent it, I looked up to see him right there!

He had walked up without me even noticing. I guess he’d just got back from getting hockey cards in Erie and came to use the bathroom here.

My favorite sandwich to get at Sheetz recently is a hot, delicious, breakfast shmiscuit. That’s what they call biscuits there. Peak clever. Double fried egg patty, American cheese, and black pepper.

No meat. Why? These meats aren’t for me. Don’t like their sickly, greasy sausage.

There’s a more expensive chicken sausage, but that sucks just as much (if not more).

Sheetz has a chicken quality issue. With the quesadillas I’ve seen its worst.

Seems to always have cartilage and chewy hard chunks. One time I remember pulling a piece of beak out. How does that even happen?

Their brisket though? Way higher quality. So I get that in a quesadilla, worth the up-charge.

Gobbled up my sandwich while sitting in the car and headed out to get something done.

I ended up taking photos of clothing to list on Depop. Experimenting with getting the colors right and picking angles that show the piece in a flattering way.

I decided I’d give the cover image a textured, dither backdrop and then all the detail and angled shots would have just the default, existing background. Turned out decent, I’m happy. Listed four different items.

Depop compressed the green knit sweater and it looks awful on the listing so I may rework that one somehow, have a different setup for different textures.

Before taking the pictures, I stopped to get some last additions for my photo setup. One large measuring stick from Michael’s, white cloth from Hobby Lobby, and nine metal clips from Harbor Freight.

Yet, I still feel it’s a bit incomplete. But functional enough now.

Is there some kind of phone holder that can attach to my arm? So I have my hands free, but I can still use it for the live preview and shutter? It’s really helpful to see it as I adjust the garments.

Some attachment that would provide some mobility and hands free work. I’d have to keep the screen available for remote capture, but still give capability of switching to different apps as needed. Maybe I could just mount it on the c-stand, but then I’d have to walk back and forth if I leave it. Not so simple.

MagSafe related mount could work?

Drove out far enough, so despite the imperfect setup I still had to get things done.

I get quite sick of the routes I drive, and the highway seemed right. Before it was scenic, but I got used to it.

Sort of loses its beauty in a way.

Boredom can often dull our gratitude and appreciations. For me at least. Novelty is capable of bringing valuable excitement and difference, but it may simply be due to it being a divergence from our norm. So it’s temporary.

I think if you take a break from things and you pull away for a bit, you come back to appreciate it more. Instead of being stuck in viewing it as a given part of your experience, pulling away gives a refresh.

When you take a rest, you can realize how important something really is, how much it really means to you. How reliable.

Change things up not to abandon old ways and old patterns (although you may learn it is something to shed), but just for the variance. Then you can come back again later. Perhaps with some new insight?

As experimentation reveals new things, it can also reveal what’s so solid about the things you’re used to doing. Sometimes stepping back means experimenting, which turns to an opportunity to evolve habits and routines.

Driving routes, diet, even how you choose to pray. Resting or breaking from the cycle revitalizes things.

Within this reviving break we aren’t finding novelty in existing ways and wonders, but instead we are entering into a more grounded perspective. Seeing things as they really are rather than being blinded by familiarity.

Rest has transcendent significance, universal importance. As a part of our design, and within divine truth. Identity of our creator.

Look to Genesis, and God himself rested after creating everything. He wasn’t in a constant loop of creation, action, doing, working. There was this pull away from the majestic pace. Or perhaps it’s part of the pace of God?

But God stepped back, he rested. Wasn’t all just go-go-go. Yet when he did create, it was incredible.

Can we distill the inherent value of rest to a more distinct, universal principle we can better understand? Aside from referring to the rest itself? What does it hinge upon?

Contrast perhaps is one aspect of it. I think a lot of people will frame contrast with the concepts of dark versus light, good versus evil. You know what I mean? Kind of the default for the occult.

Because when I’d hear people talk about this, how darkness helps you appreciate the light, it seems intriguing in some sense. Intuitively, it seems there is something correct about it.

Yet I can’t bring myself to believe this strengthening justifies its permeations in our world. Evil making good seem gooder doesn’t justify it. Perhaps it has purpose, but I don’t want to give it any credit whatsoever.

Seeing the evil of the world really does make you appreciate the good more, surely. But God doesn’t have that evil within him, he is perfect. Incorruptible. Credit that, not the void. Glory to life.

Creation that’s corrupted, this is evil. Evil kills the good creation God completed. But rest, it’s not corruption. It’s appreciation, turning to vitalization.

Slowing down to speeding up, not the same as the sinister dualism. There’s something far more beautiful about it. And it’s all encompassed in good. No darkness, no false, feigned lights. Empty battles and unending cycles of destruction. Sowing and reaping.

You can find yourself hating. Because it’s perplexing, oppressive. No wonders. Dead. Our twisted world. I’m part of it far too often. I’m so thankful for what God has finished.

Even if there weren’t this corruption, there would still be infinite reason to celebrate God. I believe this joy, this celebration of good is the true purpose of reality, this glory eternal.

Traditions may hold evil as cosmically important. To the point of veneration, worshipping evil as necessity at the core of it. But evil isn’t true. Life is true.

Corruption is destruction, not our intended design. Divergence and rebellion against the real purpose of things. Against life, against joy. Attacking love. Spiritual hate war, unbelievable hatred against us.

Darkness is not eternal, only God. I think that’s the ultimate conclusion regarding sin. It cannot commune with the eternal.

But what goes on forever? Grace and glory. Love of God. He’s eternal. All his power. And the only way we enter into undying light is by trusting.

Trusting that he is who he is, and he finished it for us once and for all.

Do not conform to the seemingly endless wave of fear. Rest in the truth. I needed this.

All of fear is illusion, delusion, exclusion. It will end. The lie ends with truth reveal. Don’t give evil any degree of respect just because it stands so mighty and tall. It’s a façade. Laugh at it, because you know that it’s over. Light the way, be a lamp on the path to those lost in the dark.

I don’t know what I’m talking about, I don’t know if you understand what I’m trying to say. But I believe it.

It’s all fading away.
